Lena Palm – vocals, piano
Jenny Lundahl – vocals, guitar

When two very dear friends of mine (Lisa and Christian) were planning for their wedding, they asked me to sing and play on the ceremony. They also asked the bride’s cousin, Lena, who is a singer and also plays the piano, and another friend of their’s, Annika, who plays the cello. Annika and I knew each other from before, but Lena and I had never met. We got together several times to work on the arrangements, rehearsed, and ended up with a set of songs that we performed.

I remember that, during this process, I reflected upon how easy it was to work together, and that I really liked Lena’s taste of music and what she brought into the songs. And her voice, of course…. it can truly drive me into tears! In a way, it was the first time I co-worked with a real pro – Lena already had the background of a many years of music studies at the respected “Ackis” in Stockholm, working as music teacher, as well as being very active as a musician. Despite our very different backgrounds, it was a perfect match.

After the wedding, I said to Lena “So… is this it?” with the feeling that I was asking her out on a date 🙂  Luckily, she had the same thought. As well as date feeling… 😀 . So we decided to continue as a duo.

We had a period where we had several gigs, and also recorded some songs. Trying to balance life and the other (music) activities we have, we have not played for some years. But we are very good friends and it is always in my mind that we will take it up again every now and then. After all we do, in different music contexts, we have something together that is unique.

Lena and I play a mix of own songs and covers. We both love melodies so choosing covers is likely based on that. Also, we enjoy being quite bold regarding changing the original arrangement, with a glimpse in our eyes. Not only to fit to our instrumentation, but to add some excitement from the unexpected.

When writing our own songs, these have so far been relatively complete before starting to work on them together. They are usually complemented with additional melodies, sometimes new parts are added or modified based on what the original creator has in mind.

Lika Olika – Du och jag
When my dear friends Lisa and Christian got married, I wanted to write a song about love, specifically for that occasion. So this song is dedicated to them.

Naturally, in the writing process, I thought about my Jakob and our story. This lead to that it was actually performed later also at our own wedding, by Ludde and Lena 🙂

Did you ever try to put down in words how you feel for someone you deeply love? It is terribly difficult to avoid getting stuck in what sounds as worn-out chlichés… 😀
