Rock music with nice harmonies has always been close to my heart. For a longer period of time I was not in a band. I struggled with finding the energy and time to search for band members. But I kept writing anyway, knowing that I would start one eventually.
When I had finally gathered some more energy, I decided to simplify things by beginning with a “project” – performing my rock songs live, and record them. That way it didn’t require as much (as e g co-writing would have), and didn’t feel like a long term commitment for anyone. I called my friend Ludde, previously drummer in Mason. To me he is a true music genious, and we also share musical preferences, so it has always been my plan to start a band with him. So I decided I would let him know my plan… Luckily, he was on the same page 🙂
By this time, Jakob had started rehearsing in his company’s band, playing the bass. He told me about a guy who also was in that band for a time. A very good guitarist, really nice, had been in bands before – I thought let’s give it a try. So I contacted Emil.
Now bassist remained. During the search period, Jakob had started to practice more and more. So one day I had a Yoda moment and realized that I could stop looking and ask Jakob – of course it should be him!
To solve the practical problem of getting babysitters during rehearsals, we simply bought electronic drums and set up everything for rehearsals in the living room.
I will never forget our first rehearsal. After some 10-15 years with some of these full-set songs in my head, they were finally set free and I got to hear them out loud. It was a surrealistic and overwhelming experience! And everyone picked it up really quickly too, and made their own additions here and there, that sounded just great to me. Jakob’s bass and Ludde’s drums worked great together, and Emil’s guitar almost seemed to have its own life – flowing with lovely melodies and (dis)harmonies. I knew from that moment on that we would be great together.
We started out with my songs, but it didn’t take long until the “project” evolved into something bigger, we started improvising together and working on each other’s songs. So it continued, and we made a lot of recordings and played live.
I feel SO PROUD of us. I allow myself to say “my band”, Jakob says that I’m at least less strict than Dave Grohl is in Foo Fighters 🙂 These talents brought together, what comes out of it when we create, and how much we share and enjoy also on a personal level when we get together – Ludde and Emil are part of our extended family.
Current state is that Emil has moved out of the country, and we are “on hold”. However we still have recordings that are not mixed, so more will come from our previous work. Let’s see what the future brings 🙂
Quantum State Lions – Change
I wrote this song when I was in another band, Endivia. When it came to music preferences, and writing together, we worked just great.
But socially, and regarding views on aspirations, what statements to make, and why we did all this – we were just too different.
They knew each other way back, so I realized I needed to look for another band – I was looking for a change.
